Residential Pond & Stormwater Landscape — Canada

Project Name: Backyard Pond & Stormwater Management System

Location: Private residence, Canada

Client: Homeowner

Project Duration:  2023

Scope: Installation of a modular ARW Crate pond system with EPDM pond liner, inspection wells, and accessories for landscape and stormwater management

Project Overview

The homeowner wanted to create a sustainable backyard pond that serves both as an aesthetic landscape feature and a functional stormwater management system. The project combined modular ARW Crate technology, durable EPDM pond liner, and ARW inspection wells to provide a fully integrated pond and rainwater management solution.

Backyard basin under construction in Canada—black geomembrane liner with nonwoven geotextile; worker bedding a perforated drain and catch-basin riser.

Design & Objectives

Construct a backyard pond capable of holding and circulating rainwater runoff.

Integrate stormwater detention and infiltration with landscape aesthetics.

Ensure durability, low maintenance, and flexibility for seasonal changes.

Include inspection and access points for easy monitoring and maintenance.

Backyard rock water feature with planting—pond liner edges visible during landscaping, accent lighting installed.

Construction Highlights

Excavation & Base Preparation: A pond-shaped pit was excavated and leveled according to design specifications. Gravel was compacted at the base to provide stability and drainage.

Lining Installation: A high-quality EPDM pond liner was placed to ensure water retention and prevent leakage.

ARW Crate Assembly: Modular ARW Crates were installed beneath the pond and along overflow zones to create a stable, high-capacity underground detention and infiltration network.

Inspection Wells & Accessories: ARW inspection wells and connectors were installed for monitoring water levels and maintenance access.

Connection to Rainwater Sources: Downspouts and surface runoff from the property were directed into the pond system via drainage pipes.

Backfill & Landscaping: Surrounding soil and decorative stones were backfilled and compacted. Landscaping elements were added to integrate the pond seamlessly into the backyard.

Residential backyard after installation—new rock water feature and fresh planting in front of the house.
