Honeycomb Drainage Cells — Ultra-Shallow Geocellular for SuDS & Paving

Near-surface storage, conveyance and load distribution beneath permeable pavements and landscapes—cut excavation depth and manage runoff on SuDS and blue-green roof schemes.

Why Choose Honeycomb Geocellular Modules?

The ultra-shallow, high-strength sub-base replacement system that reduces excavation costs and optimizes SuDS performance.

High Load-Bearing Capacity

Engineered to withstand extreme vertical loads up to 80 tonnes/m². This heavy-duty structural integrity makes it ideal for fire lanes and HGV access roads, eliminating the need for traditional concrete sub-bases.

Rapid Interlocking Installation

Features a unique 12-point interlocking system for secure connections. The lightweight modular design allows for quick manual installation, significantly reducing labor time and machinery costs on-site compared to aggregate drainage methods.

Superior Hydraulic Performance

Boasts a 95% void ratio for maximum water storage efficiency. The open honeycomb structure ensures rapid stormwater infiltration and prevents blockage, far outperforming the flow rates of gravel or stone trenches.

Cost-Effective Shallow Profile

The ultra-shallow design minimizes excavation depths and soil removal requirements. This significantly reduces muck-away costs and carbon footprint, making it the perfect sustainable choice for modern SuDS compliant drainage projects.

Honeycomb Cell Product Family & Accessories

shallow honeycomb drainage cell module with 95% void ratio for stormwater attenuation

PP geocellular unit (2.05 kg, 577 × 500 × 82 mm) with 95% void ratio and >52% perforation for rapid intake and through-flow.

Drainage cell accessories including lap pieces and vertical patches for edge finishing

Upper/lower lap pieces, horizontal & vertical patches, and turning parts to form clean edges, corners and height transitions.

12-point clip-lock connectors ensuring shear continuity and structural stability for honeycomb rafts

12 interlocks per panelpositive vertical & horizontal locking for shear transfer and faster installation; 8-direction fit for complex layouts.

Pre-assembled large drainage panels (≥9m²) for rapid installation on large podiums and car parks

Pre-assembled panels (≥9 m²) — factory-built mats delivered to site to reduce labour time and improve QA consistency.

Applications For SuDS, Permeable Paving & Blue-Green Infrastructure

Use the shallow geocellular layer as a load-bearing sub-base that can detain, infiltrate or convey runoff across roads, plazas, podiums, sports fields and green-roof schemes.

Shallow geocellular sub-base replacement under permeable paving for heavy traffic loads

Permeable Paving & Driveways

Acts as a high-strength sub-base replacement for block paving. Eliminates surface ponding and withstands vehicle loads, making it ideal for residential driveways and commercial parking lots.

Blue-green roof drainage layer on podium deck enabling passive irrigation for vegetation

Blue-Green roofs Gardens & Podiums

Lightweight modules protect waterproofing layers while managing heavy rainfall. The high void ratio reduces dead weight on building structures, creating an efficient drainage layer for green roofs.

Honeycomb drainage cells installed in urban tree pits to prevent soil compaction and provide root aeration under paved surfaces.

Tree Pits & Root-Friendly Pavements

Acts as a load-bearing, ventilated raft that prevents soil compaction. It keeps pavements flat while delivering essential aeration and passive irrigation directly to street tree roots for long-term health.

Shallow sub-base drainage modules laying under sports turf for rapid lateral water flow and surface stability.

Sports & Turf — Fast Lateral Through-flow

A lightweight, shallow sub-base replacement providing uniform surface-wide drainage. Its open structure allows fast lateral water flow, keeping sports pitches dry and playable even during heavy storm conditions.

Installation guide (shallow geocellular SuDS layer)

Infiltration (into subgrade), detention (lined), or blue-green roof with passive wicking.

  • Excavate
Excavate a shallow trench or raft to the design footprint, allowing for wrap and surface build-up. Keep sides neat for edge confinement..
  • Prepare the wrap (pick one)
Infiltration — line the excavation with permeable geotextile; lap joints to prevent soil ingress.
Detention / conveyance — install a watertight membrane (geomembrane); protect with fleece; form penetrations for inlets/outlets.
  • Assemble the raft
Place pre-assembled panels (≥ 9 m²) or modules; lock with 12 interlocks; the system builds in 8 directions to navigate corners and services. Connect inlets, outlets and inspection points.
  • Wrap, backfill & reinstate
Fold and seal the wrap; place protection/cover layers; reinstate the surface. Verify cover and edge confinement and record as-built photos.
